Mizoram first medical college MIMER be inaugurated in Aug 7

Aizawl | August 3, 2018: Mizoram Health and Family welfare minister Lal Thanzara call a press conference today and said “Mizoram's first medical college, the Mizoram Institute of Medical Education and Research Centre (Mimer), will be inaugurated on August 7,  1:00PM.”
Chief minister Lal Thanhawla will inaugurate the medical college, while health minister Lal Thanzara, finance minister Lalsawta and agriculture minister K.S. Thanga will also attend the inaugural function at Falkawn village, around 16km south of Aizawl as guest of honour.
Orientation classes are likely to commence from August 8. The medical college will open its door with three departments, anatomy, physiology and biochemistry in the first year.  From 2nd year 5 departments will be open.
He said the medical college would have initial intake of 100 seats, of which 70 per cent is reserved for the state, 15 per cent for central pool quota and another 15 per cent for non-resident Indians (NRI).
Of the 70-seat state quota, 62 seats have been filled and 11 students have been admitted from the NRI quota of 15, the central pool quota 15 is already filled.
The medical college at present has 79 teaching faculties, and 12 non teaching staffs, the institution have 91 Doctors or faculties in preessent, it has met 75 per cent requirement of teaching staff.
According to the norms of the letter of permission, the state government was granted permission to recruit 409 employees, including 104 teaching staff, 33 administrative staff, 44 technical staff, 54 ancillary staff and 174 nursing staff for the establishment of the medical college. The state government would have to incur an expenditure of Rs 40 crore to Rs 50 crore annually to run the medical college.

As for students, day scholars will have to spend Rs 80,550 and hostelites will need to spend Rs 98,250 a year to study in the medical college. And, NRI students will need to spend $ 15,000 plus INR 30,000 for the session.
