Tleirawl.in | July 10: Meeting on the repatriation of displaced Bru migrants in Tripura to Mizoram was held yesterday at Kolasib DC conference hall in the presence of Lalbiaksangi, joint secretary, home department.
According to the draft agreement made by government of India, Tripura government, Mizoram government and Mizoram Bru Displaced Peoples Forum, the Brus reside in six camps in northern Tripura to return home in Lunglei, Mamit and Kolasib districts of Mizoram between August 16 and September 30.
Altogether, 5407 Bru families (32,876 persons) are still staying in Tripura camp. When the Bru reach Mizoram they will live in a transit area for a night, and the government will provide, food, lodging, medical facilities etc. Thereafter, they will be brought to their respective permanent places.
Each family will be given one-time financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for rehabilitation. The amount will be kept in fixed deposit in the name of the head of the family within one month of repatriation. The money will be kept in fixed deposit for two years and will be given to the family after living continuously for three years in Mizoram.
Each family will be given Rs 5,000 per month as cash assistance for a period of two years through DBT. House building assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh in three installments will be given to each of the families.
The other rehabilitation packages include free ration for two years and free transportation. 824 family will repatriate in Kolasib district; 30 families from Kaskau camp, 14 from Khakchangpara camp, eight from Hamsapara Camp, 391 from Asapara camp, 323 from Naisingpara Camp and 58 from Hazacherra camp
