3 kids drowned in Haulawng village


Aizawl, June 26: The grief- stricken people of Haulawng village in Lunglei district today bade a tearful goodbye to three kids  of the village who drowned in a government pond on Monday afternoon.
Sources said, three boys from the village –
Hmangaihzuala, 11, Lalrinnunga, 6, and Jacob Lalrinpuia, 8, went to bathe in
the pond, which is a property of the state horticulture department’s Centre of
Excellence for Fruits.
“The caretaker of the establishment told them to go away. He thought that the boys had gone back. However, it turned out that they still went to the pond,” a
local said. He added that there was no eyewitness to the accident.
Their funeral took place simultaneously at their respective homes. After that, they were taken to the village’s cemetery together, where they were accorded last rites by the entire village folks.
The horticulture department has given Rs 10,000 each to the families of the deceased while the local MLA has also given them Rs 5,000 each as condolence.
